Program Intentions and Vision
The Amparo Internship Program is designed for young adults who want to grow personally and professionally while making a difference. Interns gain hands-on experience in education, community service, and leadership—all within a supportive, cross-cultural environment.
During your internship, you’ll have opportunities to teach ESL, Christian education, assist in school administration, support social work initiatives, and participate in community outreach. Each role offers a practical way to use your gifts while learning about international development and grassroots ministry.
Our goal is to equip interns with the skills, compassion, and global awareness needed to serve others well. The program combines professional development, cultural immersion, and spiritual formation—preparing you to lead with both competence and heart, wherever God calls you next.
Program Overview and Structure
The Amparo Internship Program is a three-month experience designed to blend cultural immersion, professional development, and personal growth. Interns will spend time in both Managua, the capital city, and El Mango, where Colegio Amparo is located.
Your journey begins with a two-week orientation in Managua, where you’ll learn about Nicaraguan culture, safety, language, and the vision behind Amparo’s work. From there, you’ll travel to El Mango for seven to eight weeks of hands-on service, working alongside local staff and families. The program concludes back in Managua with a wrap-up and reflection week, where you’ll share what you’ve learned and celebrate all that God has done during your time in Nicaragua.
Throughout the internship, you’ll be supported by Amparo’s experienced local and international staff, ensuring both your safety and meaningful engagement.
This program is open to Canadian citizens or landed immigrants who have completed at least their second year of post-secondary studies. Partner schools play an important role in the process—helping vet applicants, offering academic credit, and providing guidance and encouragement every step of the way.
Application Process
Applying for the Amparo Internship Program is the first step toward an unforgettable season of learning, service, and growth. The process begins by completing a short pre-application form. Once received, a member of the Amparo Internships team will connect with you to share more details and send the materials needed for your full application.
After your application is submitted, we’ll schedule a phone interview with one of our team members. This conversation helps us get to know you better—your interests, skills, and heart for service—and allows you to ask questions about what life and work in Nicaragua will look like.
Following the interview, our team prayerfully reviews all applications to ensure the best match between interns and the needs at Colegio Amparo. About two weeks after your interview, you’ll receive a follow-up call regarding final decisions.
We take each application seriously and value every person who expresses a desire to serve with Amparo. We look forward to getting to know you—and hopefully welcoming you to Nicaragua soon!
